Members of the Samajika Joint Action Committee (JAC) and the Arya Vysya Sangham, who have been making allegations against each other for the last few days on the book ‘Komatollu Samajika Smugglarlu’ written by Kancha Iliah, plan to conduct public meetings at the Gymkhana Grounds in the city on October 28.
They applied for permission from the city police on Tuesday. The Samajika JAC sought permission for organising a rally and public meeting, while the Arya Vysya Sangham sought permission for holding a public meeting.
“Both the parties applied for permission for conducting public meetings at one place. We will take a decision on allotting permission once we discuss it with our senior officers,” an officer said.
However, another officer said permission would not be granted for any procession which might lead to tension.
“The police will not keep quiet, if any organisation or a person tries to incite violence by making allegations or derogatory remarks against any person or group. We have not given permission for any public meeting so far,” the officer said.
