Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday said he deserved the credit for ensuring a tenfold hike in the pension being provided to the elderly people since 2014.
Mr. Naidu, accompanied by his wife Bhuvaneswari, inaugurated projects costing ₹10 crore such as housing, ‘Sthree Shakti Bhavan’ and underground drainage in the village.
Ms. Bhuvaneswari adopted Komaravolu, which was her place of birth.
Addressing a public meeting later, Mr. Naidu said the Self-Help Group programme was his brainchild, which helped empower women in the State.
“The financial grant of ₹10,000 to each of the 95 lakh SHG members is meant for small-scale investment in their chosen area,” Mr. Naidu said.
Rural tourism
On the Village Adoption Scheme (VAS), Mr. Naidu said the villages adopted by people of various walks of life under the scheme would be developed into “attractive villages” with a view to promoting rural tourism.
“Komaravolu has many features to attract tourists. It has banned smoking of cigarettes and consumption of liquor. Every village under VAS is being given the same attention as Nimmakuru and Komaravolu,” Mr. Naidu said.
The Chief Minister sanctioned an Industrial Training Institute for Pamarru.
“The construction of a bridge between Thotlavalluru and Pamulalanka at a cost of ₹30-crore is nearing completion. It will provide connectivity to eight islands of the Krishna,” Mr. Naidu said.
Gesture to student
The Chief Minister, impressed by the speech of M. Sashi Kumar, a Class 6 student, on the government’s achievements, granted ₹2 lakh towards his higher education.
