‘Developmental on back burner without people’s representatives in decision-making’

Members of the Kurnool Civil Forum (KCF) urged the State government to conduct municipal corporation elections, which had been pending for 13 years.

Speaking at a meeting on developmental initiatives in the city, KCF convenor B.L.N. Prasad Sharma said without elected representatives in the corporation, prevailing issues had were being neglected, putting the city's development on the back burner. “Municipal corporation elections were last conducted in 2005 and since then the process to establish a working council has been postponed due to various reasons, with the major issue being laxity of the State government,” they added.

Members said majority of works, particularly on the outskirts of the city, had remained a non-starter due to absence of people’s representatives in the council.

In addition to the demand, members called for construction of a second summer storage tank to deal with a possible water shortage during summer, extension of roads for regulating traffic, plying more RTC buses in the city, reduction of house tax, a high court bench in Kurnool, an intercity express train to Vijayawada and establishment of industries.
