Help eludes rural areas

Even one year after Hudhud hit the area, people in the rural and Agency areas are still waiting for relief. Some help was extended and though the government might claim that every farmer or fishermen has received help, it is not adequate and permanent measures are not in place.

Five Girijans were killed as landslip wiped out Medarasola village in Visakha Agency and the surviving villagers are still at the rehabilitation camp being run at an elementary school at the nearby Nandivalasa. Families of the five victims were given cash compensation but the help ended there.

Villagers of Ladaputtu near Paderu are still waiting for the benefits Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu promised them when he landed near the village for making a survey of the Agency area damaged by cyclone Hudhud.

Farmers were not happy the way compensation was paid.

Three methods of crop loss enumeration done in three different ways has failed to ensure that the genuine sufferers received the right amount, claimed the farmers.

A major promise and help the government has failed to fulfil is providing housing to the people whose houses were damaged.

Even now large trunks of trees that were uprooted one year ago are yet to be removed from the fields at some place in the plain area.
