Healthy lifestyle essential to keep RMD at bay

October 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - NELLORE:

Doctors urged people to make lifestyle modifications for relief and comfort from the rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease (RMD). An awareness meeting was organised by the Apollo Speciality Hospitals here in on Saturday to mark the World Arthritis Day.

The RMD diseases continue to put a high economic burden on all societies considering their impact on a wide range of population especially among the ageing persons.

“The high costs of the treatment and lack of much awareness on healthy lifestyles have proved costly for many people. This has to be changed and people need to be educated more on this aspect,” said Apollo orthopaedic surgeon and specialist Dr. Madan Mohan Reddy.

Apollo unit head Dr. P.S. Vishnu Vardhan, other doctors Dr. Vivekananda Reddy and Dr. Sk. Meeravali took part in the awareness meeting.

A rally was also held on the Trunk Road on the occasion.

The main symptoms of the RMD diseases include pain in the joints, inflammation and so on.

These may be because of hereditary factors or because of the unhealthy lifestyles brought in by modern times.

Dr. Madan Mohan Reddy called upon people not to continue unhealthy habits like smoking, consuming higher quantities of alcohol, fast foods and so on which were mainly responsible for the illnesses associated with the RMD.
