BJP national spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member G.V.L. Narasimha Rao on Monday said the way Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and other leaders of the TDP responded to the attack on Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy suggested that a conspiracy was hatched within the State for political mileage.

“Mr. Naidu said it was a small incident on the day of the attack while the remand report filed a day later with the court after a proper investigation said it was an attack to kill Mr. Jagan. Where did he get his story even before the police came to a conclusion? We feel the CM did it to influence the investigators by politicising the issue,” the MP said at a press conference here .

Mr. Rao said leaders of both the TDP and the YSRCP were unnecessarily struggling to prove the political affiliation of the accused. “Instead, the focus should be on the investigation to find out the motive and the beneficiary of its outcome.”

On the request by the YSRCP to the Centre for a third-party investigation, he said it was for the Central and State governments and agencies concerned to take a decision on who should investigate. “We [BJP] have only asked for a probe supervised by the judiciary as there is a chance of investigators being influenced by the State,” he added.

U-turn

Referring to the comments of TDP Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar on the YSRCP’s request, Mr. Rao said the Chief Minister took a U-turn on Monday conflicting his own claims on the jurisdiction of the place of the attack.

He said the TDP was afraid of an investigation by the Central agencies and alleged that Rajya Sabha member C.M. Ramesh had disappeared from the country.
