The Guntur Urban Police are mulling procuring body bags, also known as ‘cadaver pouchs’, in bulk for storage and transportation of corpses. Superintendent of Police (Guntur Urban) Rajesh Kumar on Saturday inspected some locally made model body bags designed by an Assistant Sub-Inspector in Clues Team, K. Srihari.

“We are in dire need of body bags for scientifically storing and transporting corpses and are looking for sponsors to support our effort. We may need 600-800 bags,” Mr. Rajesh Kumar said. The model body bag, made of thin plastic fibre, is non-porous. It is water-proof and has a bamboo covering to keep it light. Mr. Srihari said it cost him more than Rs. 800 to make a body bag.
