Funds, not promises, needed to implement projects: CPI(M)

Party demands White Paper on development works in TDP rule

Leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday took a dig at Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for what they alleged as ‘confining himself to promises on implementation of grand projects without any fund allocation for their realisation’.

“Mr. Naidu’s surprise inspections at various places in the city on Saturday followed by a barrage of assurances on implementation of development projects was a repeat of what he had done three-and-a-half years back. He has once again promised to allot houses, sanction pattas and develop the roads and government hospitals within a timeframe. But where are the funds to realise these projects? We want the government to prove its sincerity by preparing estimates and releasing adequate funds at the earliest possible time,” said Ch. Baburao, CPI (M) State Secretariat member, at a press conference here.

Mr. Baburao demanded a White Paper on the development works implemented by the Naidu government in the State in the last three-and-a-half years. “On December 13 in 2014, Mr. Naidu visited the old government hospital and expressed displeasure at the dismal condition and left the place with a promise that the face of the hospital will change in the next three months. After that he did not turn back,” he said.

Referring to the incomplete houses near the dump yard in Singh Nagar sanctioned under JNNURM 10 years back, he pointed to the fact that the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation authorities had written to him informing that it would take funds to the tune of ₹100 crore to complete the project to which Mr. Naidu had remained mum. “Now he wants these houses to be completed in four months which means he will have to ensure release of funds in the next four days,” he said.

‘Incoherent ideas’

He said there was no coherence in Mr. Naidu’s ideas. “After whiling away precious time on Metro rail project, he is now talking about waterways by linking the three canals in the city — Eluru, Bandar and Ryves canals. He now plans three new flyovers in the city without ensuring completion of the existing one near Kanaka Durga temple,” he said, reminding that the flyover project at Gunadala, the foundation stone for which was laid in 2008, did not make any headway.
