Four fishermen hailing from Tamil Nadu, who were stranded in the Bay of Bengal, were rescued by the Marine Police and the Fisheries Department authorities here on Friday.
According to official sources, the fishermen identified as Raj Kudumbai, Raj Mayandi, Suresh Rajalingam and Mani Das ventured into the sea on May 19. After reaching the Manginapudi deep sea on May 22, their boat capsized, leaving them stranded in the deep waters.
However, the fishermen could manage to send communication to the Chennai Fisheries Department and Coast Guard authorities and were waiting for them to come to their rescue. Meanwhile, the fishermen from Gilakaladindi noticed the stranded and alerted the AP Fisheries and Marine Police authorities.
A joint team by the authorities led by Krishna District Deputy Director (Fisheries) Jayaram and Gilakaladindi fishermen Kokkiligadda Krishna and others went to the waters and rescued the Tamil Nadu fishermen, according to Gilakaladindi Marine Police Station Sub-Inspector Md. Ismail.
They were admitted to Government Hospital at Machilipatnam and were given first-aid including intravenous (IV) fluids.
“As the fishermen have not had their food for the past eight days, they have become very weak. Doctors at the hospital say that their condition is stable. We have informed their family members, who have already started from Chennai to receive them,” the SI said.
