Floods artificial, aimed at troubling me, says Naidu

After taking serious objection to use of drones near his residence, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu has alleged that the flood were “artificial and man-made.”

Mr. Naidu visited areas that were inundated in river Krishna floods in the city on Tuesday. He toured Geeta Nagar, Bhuepesh Gupta Nagar, Taraka Rama Nagar in the city and interacted with the residents.

‘No food, water’

Interacting with the flood victims, the former Chief Minister expressed the view that the State government had miserably failed in taking up relief measures and flood management. There was neither food nor drinking water. The flood victims would have got a square meal had the Anna Canteens were functioning, he said.

The government should have made proper plans to store and release water from reservoirs. Instead of filling up the reservoirs, the government released the flood waters at one go, which resulted in inundation of many localities. “These are artificial floods created by the government in a bid to ‘inundate my house and trouble me.’ But, my house is safe. In the process the people suffered and are facing hardships as their dwellings are inundated,” he said.

“The Ministers made rounds around my house but did not focus their attention on people’s sufferings. At least now, the government should come to their rescue and help them. It is not correct on the part of Ministers to say that the people shifted to other places from their present location. Instead, the demand to complete the retaining wall should be addressed. Also, pattas should be issued to all the flood victims,” Mr.Naidu said.

“How can they serve notices when I was away? The house owner would suffer losses if my residence was inundated. Why were the Ministers worried?” he asked.

Retaining wall

The residents demanded immediate completion of the retaining wall. A. Syamala of Bhupesh Gupta Nagar said that none of the Ministers visited their locality though their houses were under water for many days now. The government’s help was not on expected lines, she said.
