Flipkart looks to double its customer base in TS, AP

Flipkart, an e-commerce market place, is looking at doubling its customer base in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh through Monday’s launch of FlipkartConnect, a campaign aimed at creating awareness about the benefits of online shopping. Flipkart currently has 500,000 customers in both the States.

According to Flipkart Chief Business Officer Ankit Nagori, Hyderabad is among the top three growth centres for the company where its business is growing at a rate of 8-10 per cent every month in the last two-and-a-half years. The other two top growth centres are Delhi and Bengaluru.

Mr. Nagori said that Flipkart today has 3,000 sellers in Telangana and Andhra, a quantum jump compared to a “very small” number of sellers in the region during the same time last year. With the increase in the number of sellers, Flipkart’s business in the region “is well-poised to take off,” he said, adding that Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts had emerged as the top performing centres in the two States with apparels, home items and mobiles being the preferred purchasing products.

Nagori expects more and more customers from the region to shop with Flipkart during the second edition of the company’s “Big Billion Days” sale to be held from October 13 to 17.

Started in October 2007, Flipkart is stated to have 45 million registered users clocking over 10 million daily visits. At present, it delivers 8 million shipments a month and the number is growing.
