At least 25 thatched houses were gutted in a major fire accident that took place on Tuesday morning in Gudarigunta area in Kakinada town of East Godavari District. No casualties were reported and the fire tenders reached in time and brought the fire under control within half-an-hour.

According to Kakinada Fire Officer Udayakumar, there was a fire accident in the slum area of Gudarigunta at around 11.35 a.m. and two fire tenders have been rushed to the area and deployed their staff.

The eyewitness and police sources said that fire broke out when gas leaked from a cylinder in one of the thatched house and caught fire before engulfing other houses. As the fire incident took place during the day time, all the school-going children and their parents had left for their schools and work spots. Old people and kids in the huts were rescued by neighbours within minutes after the fire broke out.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinna Rajappa asked District Collector H. Arun Kumar to visit the place and assist the families affected in the fire accident.
