Festival bonanza for TRS leaders

October 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 10:26 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) rank and file is in for a festival bonanza since the party government in the State has taken up the exercise to fill nominated posts. Sources in the government stated that the exercise for listing the posts had already picked up momentum with a committee of Ministers comprising Deputy Chief Minister K. Srihari, Ministers Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, T. Harish Rao, A. Indrakaran Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao holding a meeting on the issue at the Secretariat recently.

In all, 13 departments have listed out the nominated posts and forwarded the details to the government and the exercise was in the process in the remaining departments. The period from Vinayaka Chavithi to Sankranthi is considered festival season for all communities in this part of the country and the party leaders, particularly those who have been associated with it since its inception in 2001, are hopeful that they would be rewarded by the party leadership with nominated posts. Sources stated that the exercise of filling all nominated posts was likely to be completed by Sankranthi.

Inauspicious?

At a time when the Andhra Pradesh Government is immersed in the arrangements at a breakneck speed for the ground-breaking ceremony of its new capital, Amaravathi, on October 22, the Opposition YSR Congress Party has alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been adopting different yardsticks in the matter of following some “religious customs” considered auspicious or inauspicious for his family and the State.

Opposition MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy pointed out the Chief Minister’s “double standards” recently, stating that Mr. Naidu had postponed a family function, the hair-cutting ceremony of his grandson Devansh, originally scheduled for October 15, due to death of a relative. The ceremony was held on October 18 after the inauspicious period was over. However, during the period considered inauspicious, Mr Naidu had taken part in ‘naga puja’ in connection with the new capital city, said the MLA. . The YSRCP leader questioned why Mr. Naidu had followed the custom in the case of his family and overlooked it when it came to the most important event connected to the State.

Hopes of people of several existing districts in the new state of Telangana are soaring high with officials making forward movement in expediting the process of creation of additional 14 districts in near future. A committee headed by Chief Secretary Rajeev Sharma is already on the job even as the demand for more districts is growing. Firstly, Mahabubnagar district will be split to create Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy districts, which has angered the people of Gadwal, where a Gadwal District Struggle Committee has been formed to bring pressure on the Government. Similarly, there is a growing demand for making Bhadrachalam a tribal district. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s native Medak district will have at least two more districts in the name of Siddipet and Medak.
