Faulty hip implants: State sets up panel to look into claims of compensation

Aggrieved persons can contact officials

The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Andhra Pradesh has constituted a State-level committee for looking into claims of compensation by patients for expenses incurred by them on rectification surgeries and the agony thereof due to the faulty ASR hip implants sourced from DePuy International (Johnson & Johnson), according to an official release.

The committee has DCA Director General K.V. Rajendranath Reddy as the member-secretary and D. Venkateswara Rao, Head of Department of Orthopedics at Siddhartha Medical College/GGH, Vijayawada, G. Parvatheesam, Professor of Radiology at Guntur Medical College (GMC)/GGH, Guntur, S.S.V. Ramana, Professor of Orthopedics at GMC/GGH, Guntur, and Vinod Kumar, member of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, Hyderabad, as the members.
