Farmers rue their fate

The farmers who had stored their produce in the clod storage units hoping that they would get good returns when the market condition got better were shell-shocked after finding that the unit owners had sold away the produce without their knowledge.

A woman farmer Kangala Chenchamma from Kanagalavaripalem was in tears after she found that her maize stock worth about Rs. 5 lakh deposited with a cold storage unit at Ravinuthala had been sold away. Now the Union Bank of India, which had advanced her a loan of Rs. 2 lakh based on the pledged stock, was pestering her to repay the amount.
