Demanding that the State government replace minimum support price (MSP) with remunerative price for the farm produce, Jana Sena Party (JSP) president Pawan Kalyan on Sunday said his party, if voted to power in the 2019 elections, would provide remunerative price to the farmers. Interacting with oil palm farmers and evacuees of the Polavaram project at Jangareddigudem, Mr. Pawan observed that the farmers were facing difficulties owing to the existing price regime.
Raw deal alleged
“MSP is not helpful to the farmers. Remunerative price is the need of the hour to protect the peasantry from the prevailing agrarian crisis,” he said in response to a memorandum submitted by the farmers.
Finding that West Godavari was one among the top producers of oil palm in the State, Mr. Pawan Kalyan wondered why the government was not supporting the farmers.
Later, the Polavaram evacuees from Kukkunuru and Velerupadu alleged that they had been given a raw deal in implementation of R&R package, and explained him the need for extending them the package on a par with others. Mr. Pawan promised to extend support to their cause, and advised them to continue the struggle till their demands were met.
