The State government has increased the ex - gratia / compensation payable to the home guards to bring it on a par with the police constables, in the event of death and permanent incapacitation, or grievous injuries in violence perpetrated by extremists/anti-social elements.

This is as per the recommendation made by the Cabinet Sub-Committee dealing with the Naxalite problem at its meeting in January this year.

The proposal to enhance the relief to the families of the home guards had been submitted by the Director-General of Police on May 21, 2015.

According to G.O. MS. No. 72 issued on Thursday, the government would henceforth pay ₹30 lakh in the case of death of a home guard, ₹12 lakh for permanent incapacitation, and ₹3.60 lakh for grievous injuries. At present, ex gratia stands at ₹5 lakh, ₹2 lakh, and ₹75,000 respectively.
