The successful completion of Mt. Everest expedition has changed the mindset of young AP climbers and now they are beginning to aim high in academics also, according to Col. V. Ramulu, secretary, Social Welfare Residential Schools Society.

Sharing the details of the arduous trip here on Saturday, he said the young mountaineers, who thought of settling for small jobs, were now aiming to prepare for civil services and professional courses. “Now that they have achieved one of the biggest challenges (conquering Mt. Everest), they want to achieve bigger things in life,” he added.

Mr. Ramulu said the 14 members of the team that had climbed the peak had completed their intermediate and the society would help them pursue their graduation. “These kids are equally good at education and some of them achieved more than 80% marks.”

Mr. Devara Vasu, secretary, Tribal Welfare Gurukul Society, said that the trip had enhanced their self-confidence.

“We will be producing more mountaineers in the days to come,” he added.
