Driver killed in train-truck collision

A truck driver was killed when the truck he was driving was hit by a speeding Hampi Express in the Hindupur mandal of the district.

According to an eyewitness account, at around 3:30 a.m., ,Hampi Express, going from Anantapur to Bengaluru, hit a truck carrying scrap iron from Bangalore to Hindupur, at an unmanned level crossing near the Devarapalli village of the Hindupur mandal.

The train dragged the truck for several metres before it came to a halt. The driver of the truck, Pradeep Kumar, died in the spot .

Meanwhile, some of the passengers in the trainran out of the train, fearing a fire.

The traffic on the rail line was affected for more than half an hour.

3 die in truck-auto collision

Three persons were killed and nine injured when an overcrowded auto-rickshaw collided head on with a speeding truck bound for Raygada from Parvathipuram at a sharp curve near a residential school at Komarada at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The victims (all closely related) belonging to Karada village were on their way to Parvathipuram to attend a function.

While J. Sridevi (25) died on the spot, J. Kalavati (62) succumbed to injuries at the Parvathipuram Area Hospital, and Varanasi Nagesh (30) died on the way to KGH, according to Komarada Sub-Inspector Santosh Kumar.

Police have arrested the truck driver.
