Donor farmers upbeat about Amaravati

October 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - AMARAVATI:

The farmers’ enclosure at the Amaravati foundation ceremony was a pocket of excitement amidst the VIP audience on Thursday.

Braving the blistering heat, hundreds of cultivators from 25 villages in Tullur, Tadepalli and Mangalagiri mandals thronged the venue in Uddandrayunipalem to see the birth of Amaravati.

Lavu Hari, who now works in Vijayawada after having given away his 1.5 acres in Rayapudi village to the Land Pooling Scheme, said, “I don’t rue my decision to give my land. I am happy as my village will be next door to the new Capital.’’

Special enclosure

As farmers made a beeline to the special enclosure set apart for them, security personnel had a tough time keeping order.

“I have no doubt that the first phase of the new capital will be completed before 2019. I am also sure that I will find a job in the new capital after I complete my graduation,’’ said T. Sneha, daughter of a farmer and a B.Tech graduate.
