In yet another dowry harassment case, a woman in her thirties with her four-year-old child was allegedly deserted by her husband at the railway station, here on Saturday. Later, the woman with her child staged a dharna in front of her in-laws house near the Beach Road.

As per the police, Ch. Janaki, a native of Eluru, was married to one Ch. Sandeep in 2008. Then Sandeep was working with the East Coast Railways in the electrical department.

At the time of marriage Sandeep and his parents took ₹15 lakh as dowry and 30 tolas of gold ornaments. Later, they also took some more money in instalments, said the police. As per the complaint given by Ms. Janaki, her husband and in-laws subjected her to dowry harassment, immediately after her marriage. Later, when the couple was blessed with a baby girl, the harassment increased.

About seven years ago, Sandeep was suspended and the couple moved to Janaki’s parental house in Eluru. Later, in September 2018, Sandeep got back his job with the intervention of Janaki’s father and was posted in Bacheli in Chhattisgarh.

But as per police, Janaki was retained at her parent’s house and Sandeep never visited them, despite he visiting his parents in Visakhapatnam.

Brought back

A couple of days back, Janaki along with her four-year-old child landed up at Sandeep’s house in Bacheli. Sandeep sweet-talked Janaki and brought her back to Visakhapatnam and deserted her with the child in the railway station, on the pretext of going to the bathroom on Saturday.

After patiently waiting for a couple of hours, Janaki came to her in-laws house, but her mother-in-law locked the house and did not allow her inside. Upset with this, she staged a sit-in in front of the house.

Based on media reports in a few channels and neighbours notifying the police, a team from the Town Police have taken up the investigation.
