Former Congress MP of Amalapuram G.V. Harsha Kumar on Thursday made it clear that Dalits were firm on going ahead with their proposed August 5 ‘Million March’ braving curbs to press for undoing the ‘damage done to the Dalits’ cause in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling on SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act’.
“It is undemocratic on the part of the State government to deny permission for the march to Amaravati from different parts of the State,” he told the media here.
“We will go ahead with the march whether the permission is granted or not,” he asserted along with Congress Youth wing leader G.V. Raj Vimal.
Mr.Harsha Kumar, who held a strategic meeting with various organisations conducted by Prof. Harsha Preetam Dev to mobilise Dalits in a big way for the march, said the SC/ST POA Act should be included in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution to avoid judicial scrutiny.
Atrocities increased
Atrocities on Dalits had increased in the State, he said and referred to alleged ‘usurpation’ of Dalits’ land in Devarapalli in Prakasam district on the pretext of restoring a defunct water body in the village.
The land was assigned to a group of Dalits during the erstwhile Indiramma regime, he said.
