CPI wants Modi to announce special category status to AP

October 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:06 am IST - SRIKAKULAM:

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has stepped up pressure on the State government to draw the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant of special category status to AP when the latter comes take part in the foundation ceremony of capital on October 22 at Amaravati.

CPI-AP wing secretary K. Ramakrishna, AP Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samiti president Chalasani Srinivas and others who toured the entire State ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit on Tuesday said that SCS would be the lifeline for the backward districts such as Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Anantapur.

“The real development of the State will be possible only if the special category status is granted to it. SCS is the legitimate right of AP people as then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had announced it in the Parliament. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu should not hesitate to bring the issue to the notice of Mr. Modi,” Mr.Ramakrishna said.

Mr. Srinivas said that the party would go for a movement, if there was no favourable response from Mr. Modi to this issue. “We should not forget that a resolution had been passed in the Assembly seeking SCS for the State. The same should be conveyed to the Prime Minister,” he added.
