Efforts of its national leadership to forge a non-Congress/non-BJP alternative notwithstanding, the Communist Party of India is not looking at the ruling Congress as an “untouchable”, at least in Telangana.
CPI State secretary K. Narayana said an effective understanding among the Congress, the TRS and the CPI could augur well for the three parties in the Telangana State.
While several other parties were distancing themselves from the Congress post-bifurcation, the CPI was unwilling to do so as the ruling party deserved due credit for the formation of separate State.
“The Congress played a key role in granting separate statehood and one should not ignore this fact,” Mr. Narayana said.
