Tough message: Prakasam police conducting a cordon and search operation at Rajiv Gruhakalpa Colony in Ongole on Sunday.

Police conducted a cordon and search operation in different parts of the city in the early hours of Sunday.

The exercise involving 200 police personnel from different wings, which caught the denizens by surprise, led to seizure of 352 two-wheelers, six autorickshaws and two sand-laden tractors without proper documents, Ongole DSP K.V.V.N.V. Prasad said. Sixteen LPG cylinders illegally used for commercial purpose were also seized during the operation in multiple locations, including Indiramma Colony, Puli Venkat Reddy Colony and Rajiv Gruha.

During the elaborate exercise which also saw the participation of Armed Reserve and Central Crime Station wings, police personnel collected particulars of the residents to ensure that anti-social elements did not turn the areas into shelter zones.

“There has been a very good response from the general public who wanted the police to be more pro-active in preventing crime and make the city safe and secure,” the DSP said.
