All India Congress Committee secretary and in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs Oommen Chandy on Tuesday said that the Special Category Status to the State was possible only with the Congress.

“Rahul Gandhi has already announced that the SCS will be given to the State as soon as the Congress comes to power. The party is also keen on addressing the agrarian crisis in the State by offering remunerative price to farmers for their produce,” he said while launching the ‘Intintiki Congress’ programme at Chintalapudi.

Mr. Chandy and APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy unveiled the statue of Ekalavya before launching the door-to-door campaign for the general elections.

Mr. Chandy alleged that both the Centre and the State had failed over the SCS issue and it was unfortunate that the political parties threw the blame of the division of the State on the Congress.

“We are keen on developing A.P., which is possible only through the SCS. We are confident that the people will vote for us, ” he said.

‘Comeback a matter of time’

Srikakulam Staff Reporter writes:

Mr. Raghuveera Reddy formally launched the campaign at the party office Indira Vignan Bhavan after garlanding a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.

He hoped that the Congress would regain its glory in the State within no time as people were fed up with other parties.

‘Modi’s stock down’

Former Union Minister Killi Kruparani, senior leaders Dronamraju Srinivas, Dola Jagan, Chowdary Satish and others accompanied him in the campaign at Srikakulam, Polaki and Tekkali . They told him that the cadre in villages remained intact although many leaders had joined the Telugu Desam Party and the YSRCP in the last four years.

Mr. Raghuveera Reddy said there had been a perceptible change in people’s mood after ‘the dismal performance’ of the Narendra Modi government.
