October 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A division bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising Acting Chief Justice D.B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt on Monday said it would appoint a committee on Tuesday to supervise the sale of properties of Agri Gold companies and payment to the helpless depositors.

The bench was dealing with a PIL filed by Telangana Agri Gold Customers and Agents welfare association, represented by its president A. Ramesh Babu of the city, seeking a direction to hand over the case to CBI or ED. The bench asked AP and Telangana governments to suggest one name each who is well versed with the financial issues. They will work under the supervision of the retired High Court judge who will be named by the bench. A. Venkata Seshu Narayana Rao, chairman of the company and other directors are also present before the court. The case is listed for Tuesday for appointment of committee.

Elections to WUAs

The division bench also asked the Andhra Pradesh government to give the time schedule for holding elections to the Water User Associations (WUAs), Distributary Committees (DCs) and Project Committees (PCs) as required under the AP Farmers' Management of Irrigation Systems Act, 1997.

The bench was dealing with a case filed by Kona Raghupathi, YSR Congress MLA, Bapatla complaining that elections are not being held. The court was told that the Government has brought out a Government Order to form Organizations and Committees by consensus instead of conducting elections, which amounts to replacing an adhoc body with another adhoc body. The bench wanted Government to inform by October 26, the time it needed to conduct elections.
