The government released Rs.1,259 crore under different heads for the fee reimbursement scheme on Monday evening thus avoiding a confrontation with the colleges over their threat to close the colleges till the dues were cleared.
The Consortium of Engineering and Professional College Managements Association (CEPCMA) secretary general K.V.K. Rao and secretary Panduranga Reddy said orders were issued on Monday night and the colleges have withdrawn their closure decision in view of the positive development.
The release of funds was apparently advanced after the college managements held discussions with the government on Sunday night. The government has to release Rs.2,600 crore to compensate for the fee to be paid by students of engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA and other professional courses.
Meanwhile, the Consortium of Engineering Colleges Managements Association (CECMA) has demanded the government to issue a calendar well in advance to avoid such uncomfortable situations arising out of the delay.
CECMA general secretary P. Rajeshwar Reddy and others told a press conference that the delay of certificate verification was not from the colleges but the government. He said the verification officers were deliberately delaying the procedures and also delaying uploading of details.
