Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said that his review meetings with government officials were strictly to address issues such as drinking water crisis and problems faced by the farmers.

Speaking to the media after the inauguration of the NTR Trust-administered fourth blood bank here, Mr. Naidu rejected the allegations by political rivals that the meetings were in violation of the election code.

“Is the election code not applicable to other States and (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi?” he asked.

He said government functionaries, including Intelligence officials, were meeting the Prime Minister. Mr. Naidu said it was discriminatory on the part of the Election Commission to take action against an IAS officer over surveillance on the helicopter used by Mr. Modi.

‘Oppn. being targeted’

The CM said that he would never stop his struggle to save democracy in the face of the Modi government’s ‘thorough destruction’ of constitutional bodies such as the Enforcement Directorate, the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Reserve Bank of India, and now the EC. He said that the I-T raids were focused on the leaders of parties who were opposed to Mr. Modi’s ‘undemocratic attacks.’ He said the raids were conducted on anti-BJP forces such as the TDP, the DMK and the JD (S) in the south.Mr. Naidu reiterated his demand for counting 50 % of VVPAT slips.
