Cloth merchants’ bandh today

June 15, 2017 01:23 am | Updated 01:23 am IST -

Cloth merchants will observe one-day bandh across the State on Thursday in protest against the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The bandh is being organised in response to the call given by All India GST Sangharshan Samithi.

Waiver sought

Andhra Pradesh Textile Federation (APTF) president Busireddy Malleswara Reddy on Wednesday said that the bandh was to demand the government to waive off the GST on cloth. GST would adversely affect the retailers and small-time vendors.

More than 80% of people buy their clothes from local merchants.

Small-time merchants would be put to inconvenience as they do not have proper computer knowledge to upload bills and maintain accounts, he said.

It was a burden on the people, Malleswara Reddy added.
