In a record of sorts, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday held tele-conference with 14,000 officials on the linking the Godavari river with Krishna delta, which would be beneficial in drought-proofing Rayalase- ema

Underlining the importance of river-linking, the Chief Minister said the process would help in solving water woes in the State. Instructing officials to ensure that every drop of rain water was saved and used productively, he said “divert rainwater to borewells that have dried up over the years and recharge groundwater levels.”

The government aimed to keep the groundwater levels in the State between 3 metres and 8 meters, he added.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to repair damaged structures/tanks on a war-footing.

Recharging

On a priority basis, focus on recharging tanks, borewells in mandals that are categorised as a) over-exploited, b) critical and c) semi-critical and bring them on par with water-sufficient mandals, Mr. Naidu said.
