Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday led a ‘Rythu Bathuku Theruvu Yatra’ from Pudicherla in Orvakal mandal to the Kurnool Collectorate, protesting against the alleged forcible takeover of fertile lands, contravening the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act for setting up industries.
Former Union Minister Kotla Jayasuryaprakash Reddy, MLC M. Geyanand, CPI(M) State committee member T. Shadrak, district rythu sangham president P. Jagannatham, District Congress Committee president B.Y. Ramaiah, CPI district secretary P. Ramanjaneyulu, MIM leaders Azeem and Arshad and Welfare Party of India leader Shamshullah took part in the yatra.
Addressing farmers at Pudicherla and at the Collectorate, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy warned that he would move the court against the violation of the LA Act.
He charged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of betraying his motherland Rayalaseema and mortgaging its interests to coastal Andhra.
“The government is acting against the spirit of democracy and giving priority to corporates. It will incur the wrath of people by troubling vulnerable farmers,” he said. Recalling that his padayatra was foiled last month by placing him under house arrest and arresting thousands of farmers, he said he had secured the High Court’s permission for the yatra.
Mr. Jayasuryaprakash Reddy warned that the government could not take even an inch of land without farmers’ consent. DCC president B.Y. Ramaiah said the Chief Minister was offering up to Rs. 2 crore per acre to farmers for acquiring land for the capital, but he was grabbing lands by giving a pittance of Rs. 2 lakh per acre in Kurnool district.
Dr. Geyanand and Mr. Shadrak alleged that the rights of people and farmers of Rayalaseema were being usurped.
