In a hat-trick, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Tuesday repeated in Narayankhed the miracle of Warangal byelection and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) poll results.

In the byelection, to the constituency, TRS candidate Mahareddy Bhupal Reddy defeated Congress candidate Patlolla. Sanjeeva Reddy by a margin of 53,625 votes.

The results were declared at 11.45 a.m. at Narayankhed counting centre. From the first round onwards, Mr. Bhupal Reddy maintained lead over his nearest Congress rival Sanjeev Reddy. TDP candidate Mahareddy Vijayapal Reddy, brother of Mr. Bhupal Reddy, lost his deposit.

The TRS got 93,076 votes followed by Congress 39,451 and TDP 14,787. The success in the byelection was attributed to the efforts of Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao.

With losing the Narayankhed seat, the Congress strength fell to one seat in the native district of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. The lone seat of Zaheerabad is represented by former Minister J. Geeta Reddy.

A total of 1,54,866 votes were polled in the election which registered more than 82 per cent voting, the highest in the constituency so far.
