PGM says 25 exchanges will be upgraded for NGN

BSNL East Godavari telecom district has decided to invest ₹168 crore as part of its expansion and it will take up installation of 3G and 4G towers in the district.

Addressing a media conference on Saturday, Principal General Manager (PGM) of the district M. John Chrisotom said that they would erect 600 4G, 300 3G and 680 2G towers before the end of March, 2018.

He said that East Godavari district is standing in No. 3 position in respect of overall performance after Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. He informed that they were converting to next generation network (NGN) in which 14 exchanges in Rajamahendravaram and 11 in Kakinada will be upgraded for NGN.

At present, there are 356 2G and 158 3G towers are there in the district.

He said that they have introduced Wifi hotspot, mobile date offloading at 48 places in East Godavari and planning to increase them to 120 by March next year.

Mr. Chrisotom said that they are having 83,000 landline connections at present and expecting to reach the target of 90,000 before March.

Replying to a question, Mr. Chrisotom said that as part of left wing extremists area connectivity, the government has sanctioned 53 towers in the State out of which 23 are in East Godavari district.
