Excitement has gripped the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the proposed visit of its national leaders to Kadapa on Friday.

National president Amit Shah has cancelled his visit as he is indisposed, but Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and State party in-charge Ram Madhav are coming to address a crucial meeting, which shows the party’s enhanced focus on the region.

Mr. Rajnath Singh will fly directly from New Delhi and will return in the evening immediately after the meeting.

“The duo’s visit will not only highlight the sops showered by the Central government on Andhra Pradesh, but also expose the State government’s neglect of the backward Rayalaseema region,” said party State president Kanna Lakshminarayana.

‘A poll gimmick’

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, he breathed fire on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for ‘shedding crocodile tears’ in the name of the Centre’s non-cooperation.

The glittering function held to lay the foundation stone for the steel plant in Kadapa was an ‘election stunt,’ and the proposal a ‘non-starter,’ he added.

“Instead of wasting four-and-a-half years and laying the foundation stone at the last moment, he should have cooperated with the Centre by providing the required details to the task force within the stipulated time,” he said, adding that the TDP had no interest in developing the district, which had ‘let it down’ in the 2014 elections.
