BJP leaders are not being allowed by police to meet the injured party activists at Bantupalli village in Srikakulam district on Tuesday.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLC PVN Madhav and Etcherla party in-charge Nadukuditi Eswara Rao on Tuesday had a heated argument with police officials and personnel as they were not allowed to meet the injured activists at Bantupalli village of Ranasthalam mandal in Srikakulam district.

As many as 11 BJP activists were injured in an attack allegedly carried out by YSRCP leaders and activists in the early hours of Monday over the issue of BJP banners and flags.

‘No arrests made’

On reaching Bantupalli, Mr. Madhav and Mr. Eswara were told by the police that their visit would lead to escalation of tension in the village which has witnessed a series of clashes in the last three months. Mr. Madhav, taking objection to the restrictions, alleged that the police were siding with the YSRCP. Later, addressing a media conference, Mr. Madhav said they would visit New Delhi soon to apprise party national working president J.P. Nadda and Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy of the situation prevailing in the district. “Police forget that the BJP is the ruling party at the Centre. They will face the consequences if they fail to discharge their duty properly,” said Mr. Madhav. Mr. Eswara Rao alleged that police officials were yet to arrest the YSRCP leaders allegedly responsible the attack.
