BJP leader allays fear on Dugarajapatnam port

May 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - NELLORE:

Allay fears over the grounding of Dugarajapatnam port proposals, BJP State secretary K. Koteswara Rao has promised that the NDA government at the Centre will announce a major decision with regard to the port very soon and that there is no question of going back on the promise.

He elaborately mentioned the BJP’s commitment to the Dugarajapatnam port in the wake of the recent criticism launched by senior Congress leader and former MP Chinta Mohan.

The Congress leadership has taken strong objection to the government laying foundation stone for the National Institute of Ocean Technologies (NIOT) at Thupilipalem, which was stated to be actually meant for the port development in several hundreds of acres.

Speaking to media on Friday, Mr. Koteswara Rao said that the port was a big project for which several modalities had to be worked out and the Centre had been engaged in these activities and a positive decision would be announced soon. Not far from now, the foundation stone would be laid for the port as well, he said.

Taking a strong exception to the Congress leaders’ criticism on special status issue and various developmental works, he said that the BJP had played a key role in bringing forward an ordinance on the Polavaram project. About Rs. 1,000 crore was granted by the Centre for the building the capital city, part from another Rs. 1,000 crore sanctioned for urban development.

The Centre is busy working out the modalities and a decision on the port will be announced soon, says BJP State secretary K. Koteswara Rao
