BJP State president G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday charged Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu and YSR Congress leader Sharmila with undertaking padayatras with the sole motive of grabbing power.

Addressing a public meeting at Bhongir, in connection with the entry of ABVP’s ‘maha padayatra’ demanding introduction of Telangana Bill in Lok Sabha, Mr. Reddy posed a question to both Mr. Naidu and Ms. Sharmila as to which State they were eying to head the government. He remarked that this clarification by both leaders was necessary as they had not been categorical on their parties’ stand on the grant of statehood for Telangana region.

However, the BJP leader remarked that the hopes of both Mr. Naidu and Ms. Sharmila of seeing their respective parties in power would remain only dreams. On their part, he observed, the people in Telangana were clear about their demand for a separate State.

Mr. Reddy quipped that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was ‘dreaming’ about her son and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi of becoming the Prime Minister in 2014. This, he said, was wishful thinking, as the NDA was confident about regaining power at the Centre. With the NDA government in office, the BJP would grant statehood to Telangana, he claimed.

The BJP leader stated that if the Centre did not respond by December 9 positively regarding the demand for statehood, the party would declare 2013 as the year of struggle.

Staff Reporter adds: Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ch. Vidyasagar Rao has alleged that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu and YSRC leader Sharmila have launched the padayatras separately only to dilute the cause of the separate Telangana movement.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, he charged that both parties had malicious designs to dilute the Telangana statehood issue with their yatras. Blaming both the parties for not demanding the government to convene an all-party meeting and resolving the statehood issue, he said that there was no sanctity for the yatras in the region.

Flaying the TDP president for alleging that the BJP was a communal party, he said that the TDP had forged an alliance with the BJP in elections and got the post of Chief Minister and also several Union Minister posts as well as the Speaker’s post. Besides, he also secured several funds under the ‘Food for Work’ scheme, he added.

He also alleged that the YSRC had colluded with the MIM and planned to create turmoil and unrest in Telangana region with ulterior motives. Demanding that the government introduce a Bill to carve out a separate Telangana State, he said that the Telangana protagonists would besiege Assembly very soon, braving all odds.
