The BJP played a catalyst role in ensuring special package for Seemandhra, BJP campaign committee convener D. Purandeswari has said. Taking part in “Modi for PM” campaign at Ravuri Gardens in the city on Wednesday, she said the Telangana Bill was passed in the most disgraceful way in Lok Sabha where the Congress had majority. Even the telecasting of the proceedings was blacked out, the doors were shut and the members of Seemandhra were not allowed to speak.
However, the BJP did not allow the Congress to take the House to ransom in Rajya Sabha where the BJP was in considerable strength and forced the government to spell out its policy on Seemandhra. The Prime Minister was compelled to announce a package for Seemandhra and the backward regions.
Mrs. Purandheswari revealed that she had even met M. Venkaiah Naidu and discussed with him the need for package for Seemandhra and Polavaram project. She said Vamsadhara Stage-II Project could not see the light of day due to inter-State disputes with Odisha. Also, there was need for allocation of assured water for Rayalaseema water projects through the Bill.
She called upon the cadres to support every candidate of the BJP in the coming election and also those of allies too in case of alliance. Any vote for the BJP candidate was also a vote for Modi.
Former minister and actor U. Krishnam Raju said the country was yearning for a hero who could liberate the country from the evil clutches of the Congress. He said no force could stop Mr. Modi becoming the next Prime Minister of the country.
BJP’s State president Kambhumpati Haribabu said the BJP was for creating 25 districts in Seemandhra after formalisation of the State. He said the Congress misused the people’s mandate given to it on two occasions and arbitrarily divided the State.
He said the inclusion of Budaga Jangam community to the List of Scheduled Castes would be taken up at the party forum.
Actor Sivaji, party leaders Kapileswaraiah, Santha Reddy, Pardhasaradhi, Suresh Reddy, Nagaraju and others spoke.
