Telangana joint action committee (JAC) chairman M. Kodandaram on Sunday said the ‘bandh' call became inevitable as the government adopted vindictive attitude against agitators and leaders who had participated in the ‘rail roko' agitation.
Defending the decision which was taken at the meeting of the steering committee of JAC at the office of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), he said no one would have been shifted to police stations if they were picked up on the basis of ground situation.
The participants were booked in cases of much serious nature than the crime they committed.
Citing an example, he said Medak MP Vijayashanti merely entered the platform of Lakdikapul station which made her liable for trespass but she was booked for damage to railway property and obstructing government servants from discharging their duties.
Against guidelines
The police acted against Supreme Court guidelines in shifting women to police stations after 6 p.m. It happened with Vijayashanti, Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha, Sandhya, Vimalakka and 60 others. The whereabouts of 16 CPI-ML (New Democracy) activists who were arrested from Pragatinagar were not known.
Mr. Kodandaram said a private complaint was filed in court against Labour Minister Danam Nagender for beating up two youths with a lathi that was grabbed from the hand of a policeman. They were admitted to hospital.
