J. Srinivasa Rao, accused in the attack on Leader of the Opposition Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, was produced before the First Additional Junior Civil Judge here on Friday evening after medical examination at the King George Hospital. He has been remanded in judicial custody till November 9.
Commissioner of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha told The Hindu that there were some loose ends and the investigation was on. Srinivasa Rao, who allegedly stabbed Mr. Jagan with a knife at Visakhapatnam International Airport, had reportedly confessed that the letter circulated on Thursday was written by his cousin and one of his colleagues, the Commissioner said.
The accused had written in the letter that he was perturbed by the defeat of Mr. Jagan in the last elections. He had attacked him thinking that it would help Mr. Jagan gain sympathy during the next elections.
The Commissioner said nine pages of the 11-page letter recovered from his possession were written by J. Vijaya Lakshmi, 16, and the remaining two pages by T. Revathipathi of Rangulaputti village of Palasa mandal in Srikakulam district.
‘Attack pre-planned’
Interacting with presspersons, Mr. Laddha said the 3-cm-long knife used in cock-fight, was recovered from him along with another smaller knife. The accused had written the letter two days before the attack, indicating that it was pre-planned.
The CISF personnel had checked his identity card and did not check his bag as he regularly took vegetables for use at the restaurant.
