A.P. stands first in urbanreforms for 2016-17

The urban reforms implemented by AP catapulted it to the top position in the country with 96.56 % marks for the year 2016-17.

Director of Municipal Administration K. Kanna Babu received the award from Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation M. Venkaiah Naidu at a National Workshop on Urban Transformation in New Delhi on Friday.

Addressing the media at the Secretariat, Minister P. Narayana said the reforms initiated in 13 functional areas of the Department of Municipal Administration earned the distinction for A.P.

Best outcomes

It has the best outcomes in implementing e-governance, double entry accounting system, urban planning and building by-laws in all 110 local bodies (14 corporations and 96 municipalities).

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Kanna Babu said electronic governance was a major scoring point for A.P. and continuous efforts are made to retain the leadership position the next time (2017-18) when a fresh assessment would be made by the Ministry of Urban Development.

Urban mandate

Mr. Kanna Babu said the delivery of the urban mandate given to all States with transparency and accountability as the underlying objectives, was to be evaluated every year.
