A.P. Legal Services Authority’s helpdesk opened at HC

To disseminate information related to free legal aid to the marginalised

Chief Justice C. Praveen Kumar inaugurated the State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA)’s helpdesk in the High Court premises here on Thursday.

It is intended to disseminate information related to the free legal aid given by the APSLSA to the litigant public.

Justice Praveen Kumar is the patron-in-chief of the APSLSA, which extends legal assistance free of cost to persons living below-the-poverty line, women, children, members of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes and other persons enumerated in Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, holds Lok Adalats to settle disputes at the pre-litigation stage and organises legal literacy and awareness camps.

Registrar General Ch. Manavendranath Roy, APSLSA secretary P.V. Rambabu, Krishna District Legal Services Authority secretary P.R. Rajeev and HC Advocates’ Association president Ramanna Dora were among those present.

The CJ also inaugurated the HC Advocates’ Association hall on a temporary premises near the court.

Nagging delay

More than 500 new cases have been reportedly filed in the HC in the last two days and hearing and disposal of pending matters is hampered by the delay in the transportation of the case files from Hyderabad.

The A.P. Bar Council is likely to get its office in a couple of days and an account in the name of the HC Registrar has been opened in the city civil court branch of the SBI for payment of court fee.
