Many companies to set up units

Buoyed by the recent inking of a pact with Holitech, a leading Chinese manufacturer of compact camera modules supplying exclusively to smart phone maker Xiaomi, for the establishing of its unit at Tirupati, and many other done deals with the likes of Foxconn in his kitty, Minister for Information Technology Nara Lokesh is heading to China in September scouting for more investments in the electronics manufacturing sector.

According to official sources, the government’s objective is to make the State a hub for electronics manufacturing but not limit the scope to mobile phones. It targets to meet the requirement of even the defence establishments.

As part of this expansion binge in electronics manufacturing, the A.P. government had roped in Reliance Jio to set up its mobile phone and set-top box making unit near Tirupati in 125 acres.

Land allotment

Mr. Lokesh is in touch with senior executives of Reliance Industries to get the Jio project grounded at the earliest, having completed the land allotment and other formalities. Reliance Jio has already submitted its detailed project report.

Flextronics, a major player in designing, assembling and testing of printed circuit boards, is setting up its unit in the electronics manufacturing cluster at Tirupati.

Invecas, a leading semiconductor manufacturer, has also entered into an MoU with the State government and it is poised to materialise soon.

Besides, consumer electronics major Dixon, Celkon and Karbonn and a host of other companies are foraying into A.P.

A senior official in the Department of IT, Electronics and Communications said the government’s endeavour has been to develop Tirupati as the hub for electronics manufacturing and Visakhapatnam as a world-class destination for IT companies.
