AMMA plans TV serials to help indigent artistes

June 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - KOCHI:

Aiming to support actors who have been deprived of opportunities in the film industry and lead a miserable life, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) is planning to make television serials.

Addressing the media, Innocent, president of AMMA, said the proposal came up for discussion during the organisation’s general body meeting in Kochi here on Sunday. A decision on allotting these productions to TV channels for telecast would be made later. As part of its Kaineettam project to assist the actors, the association also planned to hold a stage show roping in leading actors in the film industry.

The project envisaged a monthly support of Rs.5,000, which was now being extended to 105 people.

Mr. Innocent sought to reserve his comments on the row between actor Suresh Gopi and G. Sukumaran Nair, general secretary of the Nair Service Society. “Even I came to know about this only through the media,” was his response to the queries.
