Alert railway official averts train accident

Noticing smoke emanating fromthe bottom of a coach, he acts swiftly

The timely intervention by a chief ticketing collector averted a train accident here on Wednesday.

After the 15930 Dibrughar-Tambaram Weekly Express chugged into the platform of Rajamahendravaram railway station, Chief Ticketing Collector Kesavabhatla Srinivas was sitting in his room.

He noticed smoke and sparks emanating from the bottom of the S-4 sleeper coach, but by the time, the signal turned green and train was ready to leave the platform for Vijayawada.

Immediately, he alerted deputy station superintendent Nagendra Kumar who in turn stopped the train and alerted the engineering and mechanical divisions.

Train resumes journey

It took the workers more than half an hour to repair the coach before the train resumed its journey. The senior officials from Vijayawada division lauded the Mr. Srinivas for his timely action, thereby averting a major accident.
