With Sankranti holidays set to begin, flight charges to destinations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, are likely to be hiked in the next couple of days.

Flights charges from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada, Vijayawada to Hyderabad and Hyderabad to Visakhapatnam have already seeing an increase of ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 and in the next two days it is likely to double.

A few flights from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad, which normally charge around ₹2,500, was hovering around ₹4,700 on Wednesday. The same flights were seen charging around ₹3,500 a week ago. Similarly, flights from Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam, which usually charge ₹2,200 to ₹2,500, has already touched ₹3,400. It was learnt that a few websites have been creating panic among public showing charges from Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada, as around ₹60,000 to ₹80,000. Tour operators say that these flights are not direct but are multiple-carriers that touch at least three long destinations over a period of least 20 hours.

Tour operators also admit that there is an increase of 20% , but they also add that there might be further increase in the next couple of days. “People will start for their home or preferred destinations from Saturday. Usually, the airlines wait for time or till 50% assured load, and only then that they increase the charges exorbitantly. So there is a chance of increase by January 11 or 12,” said K Vijaya Mohan of Welfare Holiday World, Visakhapatnam.
