‘A waterway without water!’

It is ridiculous and amusing to see the BJP, which is in power at the Centre, and the TDP, which is ruling the State, boast of laying a foundation stone for a waterway in the Krishna upstream the Prakasam Barrage, APCC official spokesperson Kolanukonda Sivaji has said.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mr. Sivaji said the quantum of water in the Krishna was reducing with each passing year. But the government was preparing to spend huge amount on creating a waterway without any water, he said.

The government was claiming that a cargo terminal and passenger terminal would be developed as part of the project, but there was little scope of this happening, he said.

Corruption was the only objective behind the project, he alleged.

This was yet another pretext to plunder sand from the river, he alleged. There was no benefit for either the people of the Krishna delta or the State, Mr Sivaji said.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was concentrating only on building the capital, completely forgetting the needs of the people, he alleged.
