Dressed as ‘Muvva Gopalakrishna’, Goddess Padmavathi on Wednesday was taken around the mada streets on the seven-hooded ‘Pedda Sesha Vahanam’ at Her Tiruchanur temple here on the second day of the Kartheeka Brahmotsavam.

Seated on the glittering carrier, the processional deity majestically rode the vahanam as artistes performed classical dance and bhajans. ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ was performed in the afternoon with milk, honey, curd, coconut water and turmeric.

It is a practice to deck up the processional deity with garlands made of exotic fruits like apricots, black grapes, small amla, pink roses, red roses, anjeer and tulasi during such events. Ooty cherries were used for the first time to decorate the deity. According to Pancharatra Agama advisor Archakam Manikanta Bhattar, such celestial baths are referred to as ‘Poushtika Snanam’ in scriptures, which enhance the power of the deity.

Artistes decked up the entire ‘Mandapam’, where the event was held, with sweet corn and orchids.
