Two Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire with a police party near Ullivalasa village in Koyyuru mandal on Friday evening. The bodies were yet to be indentified and according to reports reaching here, exchange of fire between the police and the Maoists resumed on Saturday morning.
A SLR, A .303 riffle, a pistol, a camera flash and a CD were recovered from the place where the bodies were found. Since a SLR was found, one of the dead could be secretary of the area committee of Galikonda as a weapon of such nature is given to area committee secretaries. There was also a suspicion that the weapon might have been left behind while the Maoists were escaping from the scene.
One of the many police combing parties deployed in the Visakha Agency area after Orissa police arrested top Maoist leader RKs wife on Sunday, came across a Maoist sympathiser while he was taking food to the Maoists. The police took him to the place the Maoists were waiting and an exchange of fire ensued. The number of Maoists present there was not known but two of them were killed.
Bodies of the two Maoists were expected to be brought to Narsipatnam for post-mortem.
During the last ten days the Maoists killed four persons in the Visakha Agency area alleging them to be police informers and on Thursday midnight destroyed the furniture and vehicles of a seasonal trader, vehicle of a Forest Ranger and damaged a Forest Department checkpost.
